Busy Philipps celebrated her 40th birthday by throwing a destination wedding — for herself.

The actress and talk show host, who has been married to American screenwriter Marc Silverstein since 2007, held an outdoors “wedding [to myself]” at a popular wedding venue in Mexico.

She even turned up in a white bridal-style gown.

Explaining her rationale on Instagram, she wrote, “I decided I wanted to throw myself a destination wedding (to myself) for my 40th at one of my favorite places in the world.”

The event was held at Flora’s Farms in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, a popular wedding venue.

Celebrity guests included Girls writer Jenni Konner and actress Elizabeth Banks.

Philipps wore a cut-out white midi dress by Zimmerman for the occasion. Earlier this year, Philipps wore her actual bridal gown from her 2007 wedding to Silverstein in an appearance on her since-canceled talk show, Busy Tonight.

The sologamy trend explained

Marrying yourself — a concept known as “sologamy” — has become something of a microtrend in recent years.

While you can’t legally marry yourself, the trend is often seen as a declaration of self-love.

In 2017, fitness trainer Laura Messi held a wedding ceremony to marry herself in front of 70 guests.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, a woman married her own duvet in celebration of “the most intimate and reliable relationship” she had ever had.
