Busy Philipps Wants This Iconic Girl Group to Reunite for 'Girls5eva'
If anything could bring them back together, it would surely be another iconic girl group.
With Season 3 of Girls5eva underway—filming commenced just yesterday, March 21, according to star Busy Philipps' Instagram account—fans are getting amped up for new episodes.
When Parade hopped on a call with the newly-minted Mean Girls actress late last week to chat about her casting in the cult classic remake, naturally, we had to dig for a few scraps about the upcoming season of the hit musical comedy series, which is making the big jump from Peacock to Netflix this year.
Above all else, Philipps emphasizes how good the music is. "I actually spent the morning in the recording studio laying down some tracks," she reveals. "The music is so fantastic."
She goes on to add, "And our wardrobe designer from last season, Matthew [Hemesath], is back. I had my first fitting yesterday and the clothes are truly magical. He's got such a vision and I love it. I just love how it looks on camera."
As filming was just shy of a week away at the time, she'd also already read all of the scripts. "I love what happens this season. There are going to be some pretty amazing guest stars, and I'm super excited for this season and the chance to get to continue to do the show on Netflix."
The switch is anticipated to introduce the series to a whole new audience since it was previously exclusive to subscribers to Peacock, a relatively new streaming service from NBC. "Hopefully a lot of people who weren't able to catch it when it was first on Peacock are going to be able to see it now.
The network change also brings about a tighter schedule for the production team, though it's unclear at this time if fans will see anything differences from the other side of the screen. "We're doing like five-day shoot episodes, which is a huge undertaking for a show like this, but we're down to do it!" she says.
And though Philipps touched on the incredible guest stars heading our way, it sounds like her dream of dream guests are still only that. "It would be amazing if, like, Destiny's Child, like Beyoncé and Kelly [Rowland] and Michelle [Williams], did a cameo [as themselves]. That would be my dream if I'm being honest," she shares.
If anything could bring them back together, it would surely be another iconic girl group.
Girls5eva Season 3 is expected to air sometime this year.
