Prepping for holiday dinners, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas, can be so time-consuming. And when you’re roasting a turkey, you also have to factor in thawing time, which is a beast on its own. On October 14, 2024, Butterball unveiled its Cook From Frozen Whole Turkey, designed to save time and simplify Christmas and Thanksgiving food prep, and it’s sure to be a game-changer this holiday season.

The new turkey is great for both seasoned and first-time holiday hosts, as it was created with convenience in mind. You only need to unwrap it and pop it in the oven—no thawing and seasoning required! Also, the cook-from-frozen turkey is less of a mess than your standard turkey. Butterball removed the neck and all the giblets, so you don’t have to!

"Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving for the first time or the fifteenth time, preparing the turkey can be intimidating," said Michelle Lieszkovszky, head of innovation at Butterball, in a statement. "That's why we are so excited to introduce Cook from Frozen. It addresses both the fears and frustrations of cooking a whole turkey— it's not only simple to roast, but the result delivers a tender, juicy, golden-brown centerpiece. Hosts get all the glory whether they are experienced or not."

How to thaw a turkey: a Butterball FAQ

The Butterball Turkey Talk-Line often receives questions about thawing—questions you can now avoid with the Cook From Frozen Turkey. This turkey can go straight from the freezer to the oven.

Cook times vary by oven, but typically, a turkey needs to roast for between four and five hours to ensure it’s cooked all the way through. If you’re having more turkey troubles, the Turkey Talk-Line is open during November and December to answer questions. You can call 1-800-BUTTERBALL or text 844-877-3456 to chat with the turkey experts.

Butterball’s frozen turkey is pre-brined for maximum flavor

In addition to worrying about kitchen prep, you don’t want your turkey to be flavorless and dry. Luckily, Butterball’s new frozen turkey is full of tasty seasonings and spices. “Cook from Frozen turkeys do not require basting, brining or seasoning,” notes the press release. “A specially formulated brine ensures that the turkey remains moist throughout the roasting process.”

You can add more spices if you prefer, but it’s not needed for these turkeys. Butterball also recommends making a separate stuffing. In response to one of the frequently asked questions, Butterball says, “The Cook from Frozen turkey cannot and should not be stuffed, as it would pose a food safety risk.”

Where to find the Cook From Frozen Whole Turkey

Less cooking means more quality time

Rather than feeling trapped in the kitchen during the holidays, the Butterball team hopes the cook-from-frozen turkey's convenience will allow for more time with family.

"At Butterball, inspiring togetherness is at the core of what we do. Cook from Frozen allows hosts to focus on other aspects of the celebration, like enjoying time with loved ones," said Lieszkovszky. "This holiday season, let Butterball take care of the turkey while you make the memories."
