Calvin Klein Finally Sold His Miami Beach Mansion
Update February 27th, 2017: After two years on the market, Calvin Klein's picturesque Miami Beach home has finally sold for $13.15 million (almost $3 million less than the original asking price), according to Curbed Miami.
The buyers are unknown, but they purchased the furniture inside the home as well, reports The Wall Street Journal. Though they originally thought the home was too expensive, the buyers eventually realized "there was nothing like this house," and will use it as a vacation home, according to the listing agent.
Klein purchased a modern $25 million home in Los Angeles in June 2015 - meaning he's still near to the sea (albeit a different one), and certainly still has his taste for a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
Original June 3rd, 2015: The name Calvin Klein is synonymous with understated elegance, so it isn't surprising that his Miami Beach home can be described in the exact same way. And it's on the market for $16 million, according to The Real Deal.
The historic home, which was built in 1929, overlooks 113 feet of open water, and sits on a 16,709-square-foot lot. The home itself measures only 5,800 square feet, but an interior courtyard and multiple indoor/outdoor living spaces lend a larger feel to the space.
The interiors are markedly airy, with plenty of clean lines, antique details, and a neutral color palette reminiscent of Klein's designs.
Klein's home, which was designed by Axel Vervoordt, comes equipped with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, an oversized infinity pool, bamboo trees chosen specifically by the designer, and a private dock. And although Klein is ready to trade Miami for Hollywood, according to Page Six, he plans to be carefully choose the next owner of his Florida gem.
"It may sound crazy, but I wouldn't sell it to just anyone. It would break my heart," he told Page Six. "I hate to use the word 'unique,' but I have never seen another house like it . . . I want to sell it to someone who appreciates the aesthetic."
