Camila Cabello On What it's Been Like to Fall in Love 'For the First Time' With Shawn Mendes
Camila Cabello made a major confession in her ELLE Women in Music interview: Up until this year, she had never been in love. The singer spoke about her first time experiencing the feeling along with all the talk about her and Shawn Mendes' relationship. (The two were most recently performing together in Toronto—and seemingly kissing at the end—as their summer romance continues into fall.)
"Honestly, this past year and a half was the first time I really experienced falling in love with another person," Cabello said. "I think there is so much more depth to love when you know you are in it with another person. You have so much more to say—I think that’s what makes me emotional."
Cabello confirmed this really is the first time she has felt deep, deep romantic love for someone else. "I’ve loved people from afar, but falling in love with someone and having feelings for someone but they don’t know.... It’s different."
But when asked about whether her and Mendes' secrecy has created more buzz about their relationship, she's dating Mendes, Cabello explained she is really trying to keep their love story private (at least in interviews).
"I don’t know [whether it has created more buzz or not]," she started. "People can say whatever they want to say. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it, and fall for each other like nobody is watching. That is how I want to live. I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That’s why I’m so tight-lipped about it: because I want to protect it."
