Camp Ginger Cascades holds game show-themed overnight camp

Jul. 15—"Game Show, Show Down," a five-day summer camp program hosted by Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont wrapped up on Friday, July 12, at 12 p.m. The game show-themed program was held at Camp Ginger Cascades in Caldwell County and featured a blend of traditional camp activities and game shows, according to the summer camp.

Baylee Fortune, public relations manager for Peaks to Piedmont, shared that Ginger Cascades hosts several different themed summer camps each summer, with each week having new theme. Fortune said that some themes are repeated year to year depending on popularity, but often the organization's outdoor experience team works to ensure there's something new for the girls each year.

Previous themes include animal adventures, which featured an overnight camp focused on learning about nature, and Clash of the Cabins, which centered on a number of competitive team events.

This years's Game Show, Show Down theme adapted a number of popular game shows into camp activities, including "Family Feud," "The Price is Right," "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and the "Amazing Race," according to the organization's website. The camp also hosts targeted programs, such as the currently running day camp, "Equine Experience."

As a break from the gameshow experience, the girls also participated in more traditional camp activities such as climbing, canoeing and archery. The older girls took field trips too, said outdoor experience manager Carol Plaster. The middle school girls attended Bo's Family Entertainment, while the high school girls went to Carowinds and camped at Lake Norman. Nearly 40 campers attended the overnight camp last week.

"Campers played a lot of games," Plaster said, "including an all-camp round of Jeopardy and assorted games from different cultures."

Plaster said that, this summer, counselors are coming from "7 different countries including New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Germany and Mexico."

The week of the 14th, the camp will host almost 90 campers for the H2O overnight camp, a water-themed week for the middle of summer, said Plaster.
