The Canine City dog training program creates happy, obedient dogs one command at a time

TAUNTON – Prior to the birth of his daughter, Andy Delgado sought out the help of a professional dog trainer for his pit bull so that both could co-exist in the family without worry. This positive experience moved Delgado to become a dog trainer himself.

Now Delgado is educating and elevating the experience for dogs and their owners across Brockton and Taunton.

Delgado, 31, busts out the commands for your little furry friends with his in-depth overnight camps and hourly sessions. Delgado has the perfect program for your family if you have an unruly dog.

Becoming a dog trainer

Delgado, who currently resides in Taunton but was raised in Brockton, learned so much when his pit bull was in training with a professional dog trainer. He then started doing his own research. He loved the idea of training animals and how the techniques worked.

Over time, Delgado was self-training without anyone’s assistance besides YouTube and felt that he could do more. From there, he enrolled in a dog training school in New Jersey and took the steps to become a certified dog trainer.

After finishing the program, Delgado launched his business, The Canine City, with the support of his girlfriend and family, who had always admired his entrepreneurial spirit.

“The reason why I became a dog trainer is because I saw how much of a difference once I knew the information I knew,” Delgado said.

With this knowledge, he didn't need to worry that the dog was aggressively playful.

“My dog and daughter were able to co-exist after the training, and I wasn’t as stressed or worried anymore,” Delgado said.

Potential dog owners can book exclusive board training for two to six weeks. The dog will spend several hours each day training with Delgado to become a well-respected member of the family.

“Once we’re in week two, I can humbly say I always hit my training goals. I train the dogs on basic obedience, appropriately walking, and respect. The dog won't yank you as you walk them,” Delgado said.

Basic obedience training includes pulling, barking, lunging, jumping, nipping, chasing, walking properly on a leash and more.

If the dog has intensive behavior issues, Delgado offers overnight camp-style sessions. In these sessions, the dog stays with Delgado, and he will work with the dog but also teach the training techniques to the dog owner.

The three week, and four to six week board and train behavior modification programs include working with more intense behavioral challenges, such as high anxiety, extreme fearfulness, dog/human aggression and more.

According to The Canine City website, the business "believes in a balanced training approach. We understand that every dog is unique, with their own personality, behavior traits, and individual needs. That's why we tailor our training programs to suit the specific requirements of each individual dog and their family. Our goal is to create a well-rounded dog that is happy, obedient, and reliable."

Popular breeds enrolled in his training include XL bullies, pit bulls, German shepherds, French bull dogs, and Australian shepherds. So far, Delgado has saved five dogs from being put down by their owners due to behavior.

“A lot of innocent dogs are being put down for little things that can be fixed, like behavior. Sometimes we misread the dogs and say they’re super aggressive, but in reality, they’re just being brats; I see this all the time,” Delgado said.
