The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Wyatt Russell has admitted that the future of the new Captain America lies in the hands of Marvel fans.

Russell portrays the US government's new Captain America, John Walker, in the Disney+ series. Walker first appeared during the closing minutes of the premiere episode.

Since then, tensions have brewed with Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan)—both of whom declined to help Walker search for the Flag Smashers, and have made it very clear that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is the only Captain America they recognize.

In a recent interview, Russell was asked to comment on his character's future in the MCU, and said that decision is mostly down to Marvel boss Kevin Feige and the franchise's fans.

"You got to call Kevin [Feige]. I don't know," he told Entertainment Tonight. "That's something that Marvel–you're not involved at all. That's just something that, later on, becomes apparent or it doesn't.

"And it has a lot to do with what fans think, I think, and how they feel about you, where they want to see things go, and that's so far out of my control that I just try to do a good job and hopefully this one is good it's good enough for them to make more.

"But it's above my pay grade."

Russell's comments follow The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman revealing that one scene about the Avengers caused a big debate at Marvel.

Marvel also recently dropped a new trailer for Loki, which is due to premiere on Disney+ in June.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is streaming exclusively on Disney+, with new episodes every Friday.
