Cardi B debuts new doll created with minority-owned company: ‘I love the message behind it’
Cardi B. is getting into the doll business.
On Friday the 28-year-old rapper took to social media to announce the launch of her a doll designed in her likeness, which was created in collaboration with the new brand Real Women Are, a company dedicated to diversity and inclusion to celebrate all girls. The doll appears to come with two outfits and various accessories like sunglasses and jewelry. The dolls, available for pre-sale for three days, will not ship out until July,
"BARDI GANG!! I’m dropping my own doll TODAY! Inspired by me. Created by me. Designed by me," she shared on Instagram. "This means sooo much."
Celebrity friends and fans took to the comments to share their excitement about the doll.
"Cardi you don’t stop....true inspo," JT from City Girls wrote.
"Omg wow I love it," one fan said.
"Queen, your doll line is incredible. I love the message behind it and how you’re highlighting women of color in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. It's a beautiful thing. Congratulations on everything! We appreciate you," a commenter praised.
"Yesss queeeeen!" another person wrote.
"I NEED ONEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!" someone declared.
Though there were many that were more than ready to purchase the doll, some fans were not happy about the announcement, expressing disappointment that she was not yet releasing a new album. In response to the backlash, Cardi deleted her Twitter account.
The "Up" rapper also shared two videos explaining that she was mostly inspired to create the doll because of her 2-year-old daughter, Kulture, and her nieces.
"I'm a girl's mom and y'all know how crazy I go with my nieces on Christmas," she admitted. "And I just be like 'wow,' these dolls are not like Barbies, they are way more expensive, they come with way more fashion, they come way more diverse, they come so chic and I gotta constantly spend money on these dolls because my daughter constantly wants me to buy these dolls. So it's like, you know what? Why am I not going to get the doll business?"
In another video, she also revealed that she planned on creating more dolls of other artists and may even have women send in photos for a chance to become a doll as well.
In an interview with Today, Cardi explained the importance of little girls having dolls that look like them.
"...Growing up, I ain't never seen a doll that looked like me, I've never seen a doll that really represents me," she said. "When you go to the doll aisle when you was my age, it's either like there's a real white one, there's a real dark one, and there's like barely one that's like in the middle. None of them have my style, none of them have my flavor, and it's like I want a doll that represents me."

During the interview, she also revealed the biggest lesson she has learned since becoming a mom.
"The biggest lesson I learned is don't take advice from no other mothers, especially the ones on social media, the robot moms, the ones that tell you your kid's supposed to be off Pampers at 1 years old and then on binkies on 1 years old," she continued.
