Dressed in an ethereal white gown, Carrie Underwood, gave a beautiful performance to honor the many beloved people country music lost in 2017 at the 51st annual Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday.

The show started with a series of heartfelt words from Carrie, who co-hosted with Brad Paisley for the tenth year in a row. "This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our country music family," she said. "So tonight, we're going to do what families do: come together, pray together, cry together, and sing together, too."

Later in the evening, surrounded by hundreds of audience members holding candles, the country singer sang the gospel classic "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling," while tributes were projected onto the screen behind her. The organization recognized more than 35 people in country music who passed away this year including big names like Tom Petty, Glen Campbell, Greg Allman, and Troy Gentry.
