Back in November, Carrie Underwood fell at her Nashville home, causing a broken wrist and other non-specified injuries that at the time were described as “cuts and abrasions.” Now, the singer is revealing that the fall also resulted in her needing 40 to 50 stitches in her face, something she says she hasn’t been ready to talk about until now.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote in a letter to her fan club members. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

She continued: “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [Fisher, Underwood’s retired NHL hockey-player husband] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

She then revealed that, seven weeks after the accident and surgery for her wrist, and with the best people helping her recover, she’s healing but “not quite looking the same.”

At the time of her fall, Underwood was forced to cancel her appearance at the Country Rising benefit concert in Nashville, and she hasn’t made any appearances since. Her Instagram account has featured mostly throwback photos, as well as one recent selfie in which her face was covered in a warm wrap-around scarf as the singer enjoyed the outdoors with her family over the holidays.

“When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” Underwood explained to her fans. “I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.”

Even with a challenge ahead of her, Underwood remains committed to making the new year a good one — she revealed that she’s heading into the studio and is “determined to make 2018 amazing.””All the best to Carrie for a full recovery!
