Carson Daly's Son Is His Mini-Me in New Interview With LL Cool J
Carson Daly's son Jackson proved to be his mini-me in a new interview clip aired on Today.
The young journalist stepped into his dad's shoes yesterday when he interviewed the one and only LL Cool J, and it was like turning back the clock.
The 14-year-old, who has plenty of experience thanks to his time as a correspondent on NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt: Kids Edition, sat down with the rap legend to talk about the evolution of hip-hop over the last 50 years on the evening program, which his proud pop shared a preview of during the "PopStart" segment of the Aug. 10 edition of the Today Show.
Carson introduced the "former PopStart graphics assistant" as "one of the most hard-hitting journalists around" before airing a glimpse of the interview.
"Do you like where hip-hop is headed now?" Jackson asked as the preview began, noting how much it's changed since its inception.
The rapper agreed, explaining how "great" he feels about the celebration of the genre's 50th anniversary and young people's, like Jackson, exposure to music they may not otherwise here. "I like the fact that the roots of hip-hop and the foundation of hip-hop are being celebrated and people are loving it and I think that's a good -- that bodes well for the genre long term."
Switching back to Carson, the anchor noted how his son received a "whole, hardcore" history lesson from the Lip Sync Battle host.
"What was cool and what I loved—Jackson did a great job and LL is so sweet—is that Jackson understands that before you like a Travis Scott or a Lil' Baby, you have to understand where the genre came from," Carson observed, complimenting his journalistic capabilities. "You have to pay respect to the OGs."
"Jackson Daly? He's going to be quite the journalist," Craig Melvin agreed.
"I hope so," Carson replied.
The full interview dropped last night.
