CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage residents celebrate the city’s 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.

“This is always a great fun thing to come out to and be able to learn about all the different cultures,” said Amy Friely, The Barber Lounge.

For two years, Amy Friely with The Barber Lounge has been a part of the Hispanic Heritage Festival in Carthage.

She says it’s a way for her and her kids, who are half Hispanic, to know more about their culture.

“This means a lot to me because I feel like it really hits close to home. It’s great to be able to have them a part of the show. They’re out here with me and able to kind of learn a little bit more about their culture,” said Friely.

“It gets me excited because we’re putting a little bit of small seeds into everybody’s, you know, world,” said Maria Marroquin, Hispanic Connection Vice President.

Families gathered at Central Park for the 4th annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.

Food trucks, a live band, face painting, a car show, and bouncy houses lined the park for the event.

Not-for-profit Hispanic Connection Vice President Maria Marroquin says the event can also help with finding needed resources.

“If they need medical help or what schools have available for them. So we made it more, I guess they say, so that way they can get all the information they need,” said Marroquin.

This includes local family resources, such as medical and dental health with Access Family Care.

Marroquin says the goal is to unite the community while inspiring younger generations.

“If we show our young adults now, even to our little ones, that if we’re willing to help our community in any way that we can, they can do that themselves,” said Marroquin.

Something Friely hopes she and her kids can learn about…

“This is actually real life. And so they get out here and they get to taste the food. They get to see the, like I said, the music. And just all the fun things. And I just think, like I said, it’s a great thing to do,” said Friely.
