Carthage food pantry seeks donations amid surge in demand
CARTHAGE, Mo. — A Carthage food pantry is asking for help after seeing client numbers triple recently.
Like many other ministries, the Salvation Army of Jasper/Newton County has been inundated with the need for food items.
The pantry in Carthage has seen three times more residents using the resource than typical.
And case worker Debra Gaskill says they need help from the public to keep up with that demand.
“In Carthage we actually are a full-time food pantry so clients can come in and use the food pantry one time a month and they get quite a bit of food and then we have a free table that they can access as many times as they want to during the week on Tuesdays or Thursdays,” said Debra Gaskill, Salvation Army case worker.
Donations are needed at both Joplin and Carthage Salvation Army locations.
If you can help with food donations, you take them to the Joplin office which is open Monday through Thursday at 320 East 8th Street.
The Carthage location at 2307 Missouri Avenue is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
