There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheet Set

The Tester

Melanie Yates, longtime bedding tester so very ready to hibernate this winter

The Brief

I don’t know about you, but I’ve actually begun to look forward to the approach of colder weather each year. Perhaps it’s a holdover habit from The Great Indoor Era, but making little upgrades to the home for hygge-like comfort and coziness during this season has helped make the transition easier.

As for the bed? Swapping to warm bed sheets is certainly a no-brainer. But instead of hibernating under layers of heavy sheets, the Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheets are my winter bedding of choice this year.

Crafted of a 95% cotton and 5% Himalayan cashmere blend, these sheets aren't just toasty warm, they're seriously silky, too. The feeling is luxe but not untouchable, just like your favorite cashmere sweater or blanket. It's a great material to have nestled all around you as you drift off to sleep. Currently, these sheets are available in six colors ranging from soothing grays to a style-forward, cool bright blue, and the sets range in size from a full to a California king.

In our initial 2-week trial with these sheets, we've found that even just the small amount of cashmere in the material lends them a slickness and a cozy fuzz that feels more akin to flannel bedding than cotton sateen. However, this material weave and weight is an excellent middle ground between the two sheet types, in case you find flannel to be a little too heat-retentive. I never felt sweaty or overheated while sleeping in these sheets — in fact, I found them to be pleasantly breathable and even intriguingly cool at first touch. Another feature of this set we love is the envelope pillowcase style that keeps your pillows in place, no matter how rumpled the rest of the bed gets.

The only thing that I don't love about these sheets is that they require a bit more TLC than most to keep them in tip-top shape. The brand suggests washing on cold and tumble-drying on low — we can attest that if you don’t do this each time you launder them, you’ll start to see some pilling in the material. While pilling is a relatively easy issue to fix (I use the Steamery Pill Remover for the job), it's not ideal to see. So it goes without saying that if you're an apartment dweller without your own washer and dryer at home to easily separate delicate loads, these sheets may be a little more work to maintain.

Closing Argument

The buttery-smooth Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheets are an indulgent winter-weather treat that will make your bed feel even more relaxing than it already is. They're cozy without feeling claustrophobic — silky but not slick. Although this cashmere blend comes at a cushy cost with a little more maintenance involved than your average set, we think the unique, irresistible texture makes it one of the best bedsheet sets you can buy. Who knows — maybe they'll make you like the wintertime a little more, too!
