What Catherine O'Hara Said to Macaulay Culkin Before Walk of Fame Speech
Catherine O'Hara and Macaulay Culkin
Macaulay Culkin might be all grown up now, but his former movie mom Catherine O'Hara still sees him as her baby.
Culkin, now age 43, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, Dec. 1, and his Home Alone co-star was among those who got up on stage to say a few words about him.
But before O'Hara, 69, even started her speech, she melted the hearts of those who still love the iconic holiday movies, by giving an affectionate name to her once on-screen son.
As the Schitt's Creek star headed to the podium after being introduced, Culkin approached her for a hug while saying, "Thanks, mama," to which she replied, "My darling baby."
The adorable moment was only the start of the rest of the kind words O'Hara had for Culkin, as she went on to deliver a heartwarming speech, where she, of course, reflected on the "beloved global sensation" that is Home Alone.
She went on to explain the "reason" why people all over the world love the classic Christmas films so much, which she believes is all because of Culkin.
"Yes, he had a most excellent script and a wonderful director, but it is Macaulay's perfect performance as Kevin McAllister that gave us that little every boy on an extraordinary adventure."
"I know you worked really hard, I know you did," she said while turning to Culkin. "But you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do."
"It really was as if we ambushed the home of this real little boy named Kevin to make a movie and he just went along with it for the fun of it" she quipped, while sharing a laugh with Culkin before she got choked up and added "He's the dearest thing."
Later, at the end of her speech, O'Hara congratulated Culkin on the accomplishment, telling him, "Thank you for including me, your fake Mom, who left you "Home Alone" not once, but twice."
"I am so proud of you," she concluded.
Throughout the rest of Friday's ceremony, Culkin was honored with another speech by Natasha Lyonne, one of his co-stars in the 2003 film Party Monster. Other celebrities in attendance included Paris Jackson, Culkin's siblings Quinn and Rory Culkin, and his fiancée Brenda Song, who brought along the pair's two young children: son Dakota, 2, and an infant son born earlier this year.
