Celebrate National Iced Tea Day With Matcha (What Else?)
Take your favorite winter drink into summer with this icy-cool recipe. (Photo: PANATEA)
It’s National Iced Tea Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with an icy cold glass of your favorite blend. Our choice: matcha. Its benefits are no joke (high levels of antioxidants and metabolism-boosting compounds, to start), and the caffeine boost from a creamy green cup is enough to power you through a busy day.
Don’t let the fact that it’s typically made from mixing the powder with steaming water stop you from enjoying the drink year-round — whisking it up with cold water and mixing it with your liquid of choice will yield the same benefits. Luckily for you, the founders of PANATEA shared their iced matcha latte recipe, guaranteed to please. Don’t like your iced tea creamy? Substitute extra water for milk.
Ingredients:
1 scoop of ceremonial-grade matcha
2 ounces fresh filtered water
5 ounces milk or milk substitute, such as almond or soy
Sweetener such as agave (optional)
Ice cubes
Directions:
Add 1 scoop of matcha into a mug or glass (Don’t have a matcha whisk? Use a hand-held milk frother, throw all ingredients into a blender, or stir aggressively with a fork)
Press whisk down on matcha several times to break up the powder
Use whisk to mix 2 oz. of fresh filtered water into the matcha, making a green concentrate
Add milk to matcha concentrate
Add ice cubes and sweetener to taste if desired
