Celebrating Her Big Day: Rockwall resident turns 104

May 8—Surrounded by family and friends, Maxine Vines celebrated her 104th birthday on Sunday at Brookdale Summer Ridge senior living facility in Rockwall. Joining her for the commemoration were her family that included children, grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Vines was born in Canton on May 5, 1920. Of her eight siblings, five are still living at ages 87, 89, 92, 93 and 100. One special guest on Sunday was her sister who just celebrated her 100th birthday. Until she was 100-years-old, Vines taught Sunday School to children and then older ladies.
When asked to offer some advice to younger generations, Vines replied, "Be honest and truthful. Always be kind to everybody. Do what's right."
