Celebrities are going public with their support for Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness after he announced he’s HIV-positive. In his upcoming memoir, Over the Top, Van Ness revealed that he was diagnosed with HIV when he was 25 writing, “That day was just as devastating as you would think it would be.” His fellow Queer Eye stars quickly showed their love for him.

“Love you proud of you,” Antoni Porowski commented on Instagram while Bobby Berk added, “Love you baby boy. So proud of you.”

Researcher Brené Brown, who Van Ness referenced during his New York Times interview, also tweeted her encouragement for Van Ness.

“Dear @jvn - you make the world a braver, kinder, and more gorgeous place,” she wrote.

“I appreciate you so much @BreneBrown I wouldn’t be who I am without the work you’ve done,” he wrote back.

Van Ness spoke about his book with the New York Times, opening up about his past with sexual abuse, drug addiction, and HIV diagnosis for the first time.

“It’s hard for me to be as open as I want to be when there are certain things I haven’t shared publicly,” he said. “These are issues that need to be talked about.”

Van Ness was hesitant to broach the topic while filming Queer Eye and credits the Trump administrations treatment of the LGTBQ community with his decision to talk about it.

“When ‘Queer Eye’ came out, it was really difficult because I was like, ‘Do I want to talk about my status? And then I was like, ‘The Trump administration has done everything they can do to have the stigmatization of the L.G.B.T. community thrive around me,’” he said. “I do feel the need to talk about this.”
