Find Out How Celebrities Are Supporting Dr. Christine Blasey Ford
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford sat before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, September 27 to testify about the alleged assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh that Dr. Ford says took place in 1982 when she was 15 years old. As the proceedings around Kavanaugh’s possible appointment continue, celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, Sophia Bush, Mariska Hargitay, and Alyssa Milano have come out to publicly support Dr. Ford.
Law and Order: Special Victims star and advocate for sexual assault victims Mariska Hargitay wrote, “#BelieveSurvivors #SupportSurvivors #IBelieveDrBlaseyFord. Sending strength and courage and self-care to survivors today, as I carry you and your stories in my heart. #YouMatter.”
Ashley Judd, an active member of the #TimesUp movement related to Dr. Ford’s circumstance, writing, “I do NOT know how I got home after I was raped at 15. No memory of it. Neither does she. #ChristinaBlaseyFord”
Mira Sorvino shared her own thoughts on Dr. Ford’s testimony, tweeting, “I find Dr. Blasey Ford extremely credible and sympathetic. I find her responses echo many of the feelings and reactions I have had over the years connected to my own sexual violence trauma and the aftermath of speaking out. I applaud her courage.”
Mia Farrow, the mother of journalist Ronan Farrow (who helped bring forward Dr. Ford’s story), tweeted, “Deepest gratitude to you #DrChristineBlaseyFord You told us that you are ‘terrified’ – but today you embody courage.”
Sally Field captured what many women were feeling, writing, “Out of the blue, a hero steps up and I’m in awe. I know the pain of these kinds of memories, Dr. Ford. Memories that are indelibly imprinted on your brain no matter how many years go by. I, like millions of women across America, are behind you and thank you profoundly.”
Ellen DeGeneres, who has spoken out about her own sexual assault, tweeted, “Dr. Ford, I am in awe of your bravery.”
Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi added her voice to the chorus of celebrities supporting Dr. Ford, tweeting, “I stand with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford today & always. Thank you for your incredible courage. You are a hero.”
Full Frontal‘s Samatha Bee wrote, “So far, two things are certain: 1) Christine Blasey Ford deserves every ounce of our respect, 2) This is the first time in Senate history that women have spoken more than men.”
While also writing about the “paralyzing pain” she feels as she tries to share her own experience with sexual assault, former Chicago P.D. star Sophia Bush wrote, “Thank you Dr. Ford. Despite terror, lasting trauma, having to put your family in hiding, and death threats, you were brave and you did this for us. For both women and men. For the possibility of a new paradigm where we do not live suspended between the pasts and the futures of abusers.”
Alyssa Milano even attended the hearing on September 27, holding a sign that read “I believe survivors.”
She also tweeted her view of the proceedings, captioning the pic, “I believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.”
