Celebrity Brides Who Didn’t Wear White Wedding Dresses: Mandy Moore, Julianne Moore and More
Over the years, many celebrity brides have deviated from traditional white dresses, opting instead for colorful gowns to pull-off their wedding day vision. Here are several stars who chose something other than white to wear to their nuptials.
Mandy Moore
For her wedding to Taylor Goldsmith, the This Is Us actress chose a tiered pink gown by Rodarte that aligned perfectly with her overall bubble gum pink color scheme for her at-home nuptials.

Sarah Jessica Parker
This famous fashionista went the no-fuss route when she married Matthew Broderick back in May 1997. The Sex and the City star went with a black, off-the-rack dress from a local store in New York City that she frequented.
Now that she’s been married nearly 20 years, the Emmy Award-winning actress admits she wouldn’t mind a wedding dress do-over. “I would do it differently,” she revealed in a 2016 interview with Andy Cohen.
Jessica Biel
Not only did Biel know she would someday marry Justin Timberlake, the 7th Heaven alum also imagined she’d walk down the aisle in a nontraditional gown.
Biel opted for a pink, romantic piece. “I have never been crazy about all-white wedding dresses,” the actress told Elle magazine after the couple’s October 2012 nuptials. “It was a bit of a leap of faith at the time, but it turned out better than I could have ever imagined.”
Jessica Simpson
Simpson looked lovely in gold at her July 2014 wedding to Eric Johnson. The intricate Carolina Herrera gown featured a cathedral-length train and plenty of personal touches.
While designing the one-of-a-kind frock, Simpson and the designer created a vision board for inspiration. “The romance is what is really important to me,” the singer said during the planning process.
Reese Witherspoon
At first glance, it may look as if Witherspoon wore white to her March 2011 wedding to Jim Toth, but the actress chose a pale pink gown by designer Monique Lhuillier. The custom dress featured a sweetheart neckline and a pink, satin sash.
Keira Knightley
In May 2013, Knightley married her love, James Righton, and chose a light pink Chanel tea-length dress for the intimate affair. “It was my something old,” Knightley told The Telegraph after the ceremony. “I liked not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.”
Months after the wedding, Knightley stepped out wearing the beloved dress again.

Amber Tamblyn
When she married comedian David Cross in October 2012, Tamblyn wore a marigold-colored gown to the low-key ceremony.
“There’s nothing really traditional about me,” the actress told Us Weekly. The bride skipped shoes, and arrived to the outdoor venue via canoe. Famous friends, Amy Poehler, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Blake Lively attended the whimsical affair.
Alison Pill
For their May 2015 nuptials, Pill and actor Joshua Leonard went the laid-back route. The actress donned a pale yellow, vintage-inspired dress, and the duo’s fathers arranged the flowers.
Jenna Dewan
Dewan wanted a whimsical vibe when she married her former husband Channing Tatum in July 2009. The actress wore a Reem Acra gown featuring a full, flowy skirt in the softest shade of pink. The bride incorporated plenty of romantic elements in addition to her unique dress. Her two flower girls wore fairy wings, and thousands of flowers added to the ambiance, according to People.
Kristen Bell
In October 2013, Bell and her beau Dax Shepard exchanged vows in a tiny room in the Beverly Hills court house. The bride wore a simple, black dress and an intricate statement necklace.
Bell first shared photos from the low-key nuptials last summer. “It was one of the best days of my life,” she told CBS News at the time.
Julianne Moore
For her August 2003 nuptials to director Bart Freundlich, Moore wore a lilac Prada dress with a deep v-neckline. The groom donned an ivory suit and a lilac tie to match the actress’ untraditional attire.

Portia de Rossi
De Rossi wore a gorgeous, pale pink Zac Posen ball gown when she married Ellen DeGeneres in August 2008. The actress stunned in the backless, halter-style piece, and her bride wore an ivory pantsuit by the same designer.
