Celebrities mourn Malibu fires as Trump threatens to pull funding: 'There is no reason'
The Woolsey wildfire blazing through 70,000 acres of Southern California has reportedly forced more than 200,000 people to evacuate, destroying at least 150 homes (including Caitlyn Jenner’s). Among the regions affected is Malibu, a wealthy Hollywood suburb. Many of those celebrities with homes there took to Twitter Friday night asking for prayers, and mourning the potential loss of their homes.
“I’m worried about my house, but there is nothing I can do,” wrote Cher, adding later: “I’m afraid…kinda numb.” While some — including the Kardashians — reported that they were safe and away from the fire, others used the social media platform to call out for additional help. “If anyone can get 5 horses out the fire please help,” wrote Alyssa Milano.
I’m worried about my house🔥, but there is nothing I can do.
Friends houses have burned🙏🏻
I can’t bear the thought of there being no Malibu I’ve had a house in Malibu since 1972😭— Cher (@cher) November 9, 2018

Many celebrities — including Milano and Kim Kardashian — made a point to thank the firefighters in the region, who are working to help save many lives. “Fire fighters, I love you!” wrote Kim. “Thank you for doing all that you can to keep us safe.”

But as celebrities reacted to the news, President Trump took to Twitter from Paris to express his frustration with the region for not doing better with “forest management,” saying there is “no reason” for the massive fires. “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests,” Trump wrote. “Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”
There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!

After his tweet, others came forward to condemn President Trump’s handling of the fire, which may have already caused two deaths. Among the more vocal opponents was Katy Perry, who called his reply “heartless.”
This is an absolutely heartless response. There aren’t even politics involved. Just good American families losing their homes as you tweet, evacuating into shelters. https://t.co/DJ4PN26bLZ

As of Saturday morning, firefighters are still working to put out the fire.
