Celebs Are Ripping Apart T.I. for Those Messed-Up Comments He Made About His Daughter’s Hymen

From Cosmopolitan

Remember yesterday? Literally me either. And in case you’ve already blocked it out, T.I. felt the need to tell the world about the truly messed-up thing he does to make sure his 18-year-old daughter’s “hymen is still intact” (which he falsely equates with being a virgin—there are plenty of ways for a hymen to break that don’t involve sex!).

While making an appearance on the “Life Hacks” episode of the Ladies Like Us podcast, T.I. said his plan to make sure his 18-year-old daughter remains a virgin (?!?!?! WTF!!!!!) includes “yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.” If you truly can’t even wrap your mind around how inappropriate and messed up this is, the internet is right there with you.

T.I.’s comments have garnered responses from celebs like Chrissy Teigen, Padma Lakshmi, and Iggy Azalea. Chrissy tweeted, “Def did not think we would be talking about hymens today. Or T.I.,” while Iggy wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “Really I wish the women who interviewed him would have said something to him. He has serious control issues with women in all aspects of his life & needs therapy.”

Meanwhile, Top Chef host Padma wrote, “The double standard of the patriarchy is truly insane. Young women are fully capable of making their own informed decisions about their bodies and their sexuality.”

And The Handmaid’s Tale star Madeline Brewer wrote, “This makes me feel physically ill. It’s abhorrent. This isn’t behavior to laugh at or joke about. The level of toxicity and malice and control he’s exerting on his own daughter’s life and bodily autonomy and privacy. I’m sick.”

During the podcast appearance, T.I. also revealed that he makes his daughter tell the doctor to share medical information with him. Prepare to be furious:

“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism. He’s like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’—I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you wouldn’t want me to know? See, doc? No problem.’ And so then they come and say, ‘Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken, like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity.’ So I say, ‘Look, doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.’”

Wow, this is awful. Hopefully, T.I. will listen to some of this feedback because his daughter has the right to make her own decisions about her body.
