Chanel's Most Luxurious New Launch Isn't A Handbag
If you think about it, one of the biggest luxuries these days is being able to truly disconnect — leave your phone at home for a whole day, and be completely cut off from work, Instagram, whatever, pick your poison. Having attempted to do just that a few times, the pain points are that you can't take pictures (bring a disposable camera!) and you never know what time it is.
This movement towards limiting screen time, and, for lack of a less yoga-retreat-speak phrase, *stay present*, is driving people back towards wearing watches, making them one of the most luxe accessories you can wear. In 2019 wearing a watch says, "I don't need to be tethered to my iPhone, I'm analog, baby." And truly, what could be chicer than that.
Chanel is fully on board with this philosophy, as evidenced by its newly relaunched J12 ceramic watch. The iconic style has been internally revamped to run more smoothly, and the design has been subtly updated as well: the links are longer, the numbers are now in ceramic, and the typeface has been updated, among other tweaks.
To celebrate, the maison has enlisted a handful of icons to speak to the concept of time from their perspective, and Lily Rose Depp is just one of the faces fronting the campaign. Watch her video here to hear her speak to her first fashion memory, and the moment when her life changed forever.
The J12 is available this month in both black and white for $5,700.
