Changes are coming to Peoria's annual 4th of July Red, White and Boom fireworks show on the riverfront.

Choose Greater Peoria is taking over as the chief sponsor of this year's fireworks show and will be incorporating aspects of their "There's More* in Greater Peoria" campaign into the show.

Here's what to know about Peoria's fireworks show, which is billed as the largest in the state of Illinois.

What changes are coming to Peoria's fireworks show?

Outside of the sponsorship change, one unique change to this year's show stems from the Choose Greater Peoria marketing campaign.

Four times during the show, nothing will be in the sky except for a giant yellow asterisk. That asterisk is a symbol of the marketing campaign which is to represent the slogan "there's more here" an homage organizers say to all the things Peoria has to offer that most people do no know about.

It celebrates "all of the things that are first, best and only" in Peoria.

This year's fireworks show will also include a user-generated content contest, in which attendees are encouraged to post their content about why they love summer in Peoria and submit it to Choose Greater Peoria using the hashtag "theresmorehere."

State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth said there will be "no more Instagramable place" than Peoria's fireworks show.

The winner receives passes for a VIP experience at the fireworks show that includes parking.

How many people are expected to attend Peoria's fireworks show?

Organizer and local radio host Greg Batton said 200,000 people are expected to attend this year's show.

With the cancellation of fireworks in Chicago, Batton said Peoria's show is without a doubt the largest in the state of Illinois.

When is Peoria's Red, White and Boom fireworks show in 2024?

Festivities begin the evening of July 4th at the Peoria riverfront. The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m.

How to park for Peoria's Red, White and Boom fireworks show?

Parking will be available on both sides of the Illinois river in East Peoria and downtown Peoria.

In downtown Peoria, street parking, parking lots and parking decks will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Where are the fireworks launched from in Peoria?

Peoria's fireworks are launched from a barge in the middle of the Illinois River by the pyrotechnics company Pyrotechnico.

How will safety be handled at Peoria's fireworks show?

Over 20 police departments will be on hand to assist the Peoria Police Department with safety and crowd control at the riverfront fireworks.
