Channing Tatum says he won't wax for 'Magic Mike 3': 'Change with the times'
Channing Tatum has a new definition of sexy, and it doesn’t involve waxing.
The 21 Jump Street actor, who is returning to the Magic Mike franchise for its third installment, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and explained that he would be doing something different this time around when he graces the stripper stage.
"I'm not going to do waxing this time," he said. "I think we're going to change with the times. You don't need to look like a Chinese Crested hairless cat to look sexy anymore."
Tatum previously spoke about his decision to nix the waxing routine during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February.
"We are going to change with the times, and I'm not going to do the whole waxing thing," the actor said. "I think I'm just going to go naturale."
One thing that Tatum told DeGeneres he did have to do to prepare for the role is getting lean. He admitted losing weight in order to show off his defined abs isn't as easy as it was the first time around when he was preparing for 2012's Magic Mike.
"You can spend three months getting down to 0 percent body fat, and then you walk by a cheeseburger in too close of a radius and you feel like it all goes away," he joked. "I just inhaled 10 pounds, somehow. I can do it for another couple of years, and then I'm just trying to hold onto it for as long as I can."
While Tatum, who was a stripper in real life before turning to acting, may not be thrilled about that part of the filmmaking process, he told the talk show host that he's still blown away by where his career is now. Not only is he starring in movies about strippers, but he also owns his very own club.
"If you would have come up to my 18-year-old self when I was stripping and someone from the future said 'You're going to own a strip club one day,’ I would have been like, "Yeah, that might be true, if I'm successful,' But if you told me the route in which I was going to own strip clubs and all the things that would have come before it and during it, I would have never in a million years," he said. "This has been the little engine that could."
