Charleston Animal Society Breaks Guinness World Record in Honor of Keeping Pets Healthy

This is a record to celebrate for pets and people alike!

One South Carolina animal society broke a Guinness World Record--as well as many state records-- at their 'Vax-a-palooza' event late in February. 2,226 pet owners took a pledge to keep their pets vaccinated against deadly illnesses, and 1,800 pet vaccines were given at the event itself.

The shelter and its patrons broke the Guinness World Record for the 'most pledges received for a pet vaccination campaign in 24 hours,' according to the Charleston Animal Society's website. This was all thanks to the Animal Society’s No Kill South Carolina statewide initiative.

Congratulations to everyone who made this feat happen! Charleston Animal Society credits 30 veterinarians as well as 230 volunteers and staff for making the event as successful as it was. Thanks to them, thousands of pets are protected against diseases!

As WCSC reports, the shelter also provided microchipping to pets who needed it. Those microchips were then registered with Petco Love Lost, should they ever need to be located. Pet owners were also able to claim 'emergency pet disaster grab ‘n go kits.' These animal heroes really thought of everything!

The shelter and its patrons broke the previous Guinness World Record of 1,867 pet vaccination pledges between the hours of 7 p.m. on February 17 and 7 p.m. on February 18. An adjudicator from Guinness verified the world record at the conclusion of the 'vax-a-palooza' event.

According to Charleston Animal Society's website, that wasn't the only record broken during the event. Statewide records were also broken for

- most animals vaccinated at a single event

- most animals microchipped at a single event

- 'most animals registered in a digital lost and found system' at a single event'

- most veterinarians helping at a single event

Congratulations, Charleston Animal Society, on a very successful vaccination event!
