Cher Casually Responds to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Snub

Cher

Cher doesn't need a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to know how iconic she is, in fact, she doesn't want one.

Despite being one of two artists to have top tracks reach the No. 1 spot on the billboard decades apart, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame never inducted her. And now, she explained to Kelly Clarkson, if they invited her, she would turn them down.

"You know what, I wouldn't be in it now if they gave me a million dollars," Cher, 77, said during her recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show. "I'm never going to change my mind."

"They can just go you-know-what themselves," she added.

The other act to score the tough feat isn't just one artist, but rather a band: The Rolling Stones.

"It took four of them to be one of me," Cher joked.

Having several chart-topping hits seven decades apart isn't the only prestigious accolade she's hit, as she previously held the record for the longest timespan between No. 1 tracks on the Billboard Hot 100, according to the Guinness World Records.

Cher's solo No.1s span 27 years 148 days, from “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” which topped charts on Nov. 6, 1971 to “Believe,” which spent its final week on top on April 3, 1999.

Though she no longer retains that record–as the "Queen of Christmas" Mariah Carey snagged it from her with her gap of 29 years 153 days between her first and most recent chart-toppers, thanks to “Vision of Love” hitting the No. 1 spot on Aug. 4, 1990 and “All I Want for Christmas Is You” which spent its third and final week at No.1 on Jan. 4, 2020–Cher retains the record for the longest gap between No.1 singles with her 1999 hit “Believe,” which climbed to the top 33 years and 232 days after "I Got You Babe" charted in Aug. 1965.

Cher has also been met with a slew of other honors, including a Grammy, an Oscar, an Emmy, three Golden Globes, the Billboard Icon Award, and awards from the Kennedy Center Honors and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, among others.

While the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame may be wishing it could turn back time, Cher proved she will continue on, like the true dancing queen she is.
