Chip & Joanna Gaines Called This Reno the ‘Worst House’ They’ve Ever Seen

1 min read

Chip and Joanna Gaines have faced several complicated renovations on Fixer Upper—and now, Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. But nothing came close to this neglected home for newlyweds.

The couple couldn’t hold back their shocked reactions when they first laid eyes on the residence, which they dubbed the “worst” house they’ve ever seen.

The renovation took place on episode one of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home (watch the teaser above), which debuted last year on Discovery+ and Magnolia Network. The home is owned by Lucas and Laney, a newly married couple who purchased the abandoned home knowing it needed a major face lift. Although Chip and Joanna were warned about the property, they didn’t expect to find a littered ’90s house.

“It didn’t take but a minute after we stepped through the front door to see that these two weren’t kidding,” Chip and Joanna said on the Magnolia website.

Shortly after the walk-through, Chip turned to Joanna and said, “Is that the worst house we’ve ever seen?” The answer is yes.

Of course, the couple wasted no time drawing up plans for the renovation. But first, they wanted to start with a blank canvas. After clearing out the trash (!!) and belongings, Chip and Joanna transformed the home into a modern oasis. In addition to new paint and flooring, they created an open layout, so the kitchen flows directly into the living area. They also redid the exterior to give off a farmhouse vibe.

Leave it to Chip and Joanna to turn this newlywed nightmare into a Pinterest-worthy dream.
