Chip and Joanna Gaines said goodbye on 'Fixer Upper' and fans are really sad
The end of an era for HGTV came on Tuesday night when the series finale of Fixer Upper aired, and fans are distraught that they won’t be able to get their Chip and Joanna Gaines fix on television any longer.
The show is credited with putting Waco, Texas on the map for the millions of people who have watched the home improvement magic for five seasons. And although viewers were excited about going into the homes showcased each episode, they ultimately fell in love with the couple in front of the camera.
Just before the last episode aired, Joanna took to Twitter to post a set of then-and-now photos to show parallels between the pilot episode and the series finale. It may look like Joanna and Chip are just the same as when they started, however, they’ve let a lot of people into their family, their house, and into their world of creating homes.
I can't believe tonight is our very last episode of #FixerUpper. This picture is from our pilot in 2012 & the last scene in 2017. What a journey this has been! Check out my blog for an update from us & to see what's on the horizon for us & @Magnolia. https://t.co/8DsQXJmQJa pic.twitter.com/C1BlHL5TJw

“What a journey this has been!” Joanna wrote of the five years, which started on the premise that home decor would be at the forefront of the show. Yet, emotional reactions from fans have expressed that the series became more than that.

if you had told my 12 year old self that in 10 years I would be crying over the end of an HGTV show I would’ve punched you in the face #FixerUpper

I could pretend that #FixerUpper ending isn't destroying me, but what's the point?

But while people’s emotions are all over the place, the one thing that most can agree on is the show’s eye-opening exposure of shiplap — one of Joanna’s favorite panelling materials used to create the couple’s signature rustic homes.
Same. I’m going to miss #FixerUpper pic.twitter.com/DeEGgBqe7l

Beyond what audiences learned about decorating and fixing up homes, viewers are opening up about the ways that the Gaines family has taught them about love. From their small Texan town, to their four — soon to be five — children, and the ever-evolving relationship between Chip and Joanna, Fixer Upper fans realized that there was a whole lot more to learn from the show. And just like family, fans are wishing the Gaines’ all the best for their future.

As for where you can find them in the future, the Gaines’ have opened a restaurant of their own called Magnolia Table. There’s also the Silos, their Target line, and so much more. And to get a taste of their lifestyle, decor, and food, people are excited to visit the family-owned spot where the Gaines’ journey began — in the tiny town of Waco.
