Avengers: Endgame said goodbye to both Chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, and while both characters could return to the big screen with new actors at some point down the line, Evans thinks one of those heroes definitely shouldn't be recast – and it's not Cap.

Appearing in an ACE Universe interview with his brother Scott, the actor was asked by host Angélique Roché which MCU role he'd swap for, and while he initially considered Iron Man for the "pay cheque" and the "fun", he ultimately stated the roles belongs to RDJ.

"The role is, you know, he's the engine, he's the life" he explained. "But I suppose that's kind of signing up for failure. I don't think there's anything anyone on this planet could do that would somehow improve upon what Downey's done, you know what I mean?

"I don't consider that a role that's gonna be like a James Bond or a Superman or Batman, that somehow other people get a bite at the apple. He's Iron Man, the end."

A new Captain America is currently appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but it's another character taking on the mantle and not Steve Rogers.

Recently, Kevin Feige shot down rumors that Evans would be returning (you know, only two years after he left in such grand fashion).

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download, and is available on Disney+.
