Chris Meloni is amusing fans with a new video that some are calling a “literal thirst trap.”
But this particular “thirst trap” is a bit different from the kind of suggestive posts that come to mind when the term is used. Instead, Meloni’s Instagram video shows the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star catching seltzer in his mouth as it streams out of an apparent hole at the base of a Canada Dry can.
Meloni, 62, holds the can above his face as he looks at the camera, maintaining eye contact as slowly brings the camera closer to reveal the tiny stream of liquid that is spurting from the can. The actor slurps at the seltzer as he alerts fans about a new episode of his other Law & Order show, Organized Crime, which he has starred in since its premiere in 2021.

In his caption for the March 14 video, Meloni wrote that “THIS does not happen” on the new episode. He urged fans to tune in so that they could be up to date on what his character, Detective Elliot Stabler, was up to in the seventh episode of Season 4, which aired on Thurs., March 14.
Meloni’s post drew mixed reactions on social media, with many fans posting suggestive comments about his “zaddy thirst trap.”
“The way this took me on a path to impure thoughts…” one fan wrote.
One Instagram user called the video a “literal thirst trap,” and another agreed that it was the “thirst trap we did know we needed.”
Others suggested that Meloni “put that mouth to better use and use it to kiss Olivia Benson,” a nod to many SVU fans’ seasons-long wish that Stabler will fall for the character played by Mariska Hargitay. Despite the enthusiasm for a Stabler-Benson union among the Law & Order fandom, Meloni told Parade earlier this year that he does not think the two characters should start a romance, though if SVU’s writers decide to go in that direction, “I’d go with it.”
