Chrissy Teigen celebrates 50 days of sobriety after 'a few (wine) hiccups'
Chrissy Teigen is celebrating 50 days of continuous sobriety.
The model and cookbook author took to Instagram on Saturday to share an adorable video of herself lying on the floor with daughter Luna, 5, and son Miles, 3, whom she shares with husband John Legend. But it was the caption of the video post that reflected on her personal journey with alcohol.
"Today is my 50-day sobriety streak!" wrote Teigen. "It should be nearly a year but I had a few (wine) hiccups in the road. This is my longest streak yet!"
While Teigen admitted that she's not sure how long she will pursue sobriety, she was candid about the negative effects alcohol has had on her. "I still dunno if I’ll never drink again but I do know it no longer serves me in ANY way. I don’t get more fun, I don’t dance, I don’t get relaxed. I get sick, fall asleep and wake up sick, having missed what was probably a fun night. I had my fun with it and appreciate anyone that can enjoy it responsibly!!!!"
Last month, Teigen opened up about feeling "slightly down lately," which she attributes to her continued grief over the loss of her son Jack last year, Yahoo Life previously reported. Sept. 30 will mark one year since Teigen delivered her third child just 20 weeks into her pregnancy following a partial placental abruption.
Teigen attributed her feelings to her recent announcement that her new cookbook, All Together: Recipes to Love, would be published in October.
"It kind of started when I was thinking of my book caption and typed out 'my third baby is here!!', as in cookbook, then realized my third baby will never be here," she wrote. "Then I realized I threw myself into the book to not think of the real, actual third baby."
Earlier in her post, which showed Teigen and Legend at one of their favorite New York restaurants, she shared that in the past she'd "sit there with my multiple double vodka sodas and get day drunk by myself ," adding, "this is not a brag lol I was basically a functioning alcoholic."
Discussing her internal conflict, she shared that she doesn't "really feel like I fully processed Jack and now that I don’t have the alcohol to numb it away, things are just… there, waiting to be acknowledged. I guess what I’m saying here is life is so f***ing complicated."
Teigen first opened up about going alcohol-free in late December, telling fans that she was four weeks sober.
"One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend,” she captioned a photo in which she held Holly Whitaker’s book, Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol. "I was done with making an ass of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like s*** by 6, not being able to sleep. I have been sober ever since and even if you can’t see yourself doing it or just plain don’t want to, it is still an incredible read.”
