Chrissy Teigen Suffers Devastating Loss Halfway Through 3rd Pregnancy
Chrissy Teigen announced the devastating loss of her third pregnancy after complications.
In August, Chrissy and husband John Legend announced they were expecting their third child, a baby boy.
Chrissy was about halfway through her pregnancy.
Chrissy Teigen shared incredibly sad news with fans on Wednesday night: She suffered a pregnancy loss with her third child.
Chrissy made the announcement on Instagram, alongside heartbreaking photos that showed her crying in a hospital bed, getting what appears to be an epidural, and lying with an oxygen mask on her face as husband John Legend leans into her. In another photo, she holds her baby boy, who is swaddled in a blanket, as John kisses her shoulder.
The photos are gut-wrenching, but what Chrissy wrote in the caption is even more devastating. “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote.
Chrissy, who had previously shared that she was struggling with severe bleeding during her pregnancy, also said that they were “never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital,” she continued. “But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
She then addressed her baby. “To our Jack—I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you,” she wrote.
She went on to thank people who have been supporting the couple through this difficult time. “Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you,” she said.
Chrissy ended on this note: “We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.
Chrissy said she was about 'halfway through' her pregnancy.
The couple never officially announced a due date, but by the time they revealed their pregnancy in August, Chrissy already had a tiny baby bump.
In late September, Chrissy shared updates on her pregnancy complications and revealed "I'm about halfway through pregnancy."
Given those details, Chrissy was likely due sometime in February or March 2021.
When did Chrissy realize she was pregnant?
Chrissy shared on Twitter the whole story of how she found out she was pregnant after a fan asked about the timeline, due to her recent breast implant removal surgery in June. "I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative," she wrote.
"A few weeks after surgery, I took a [pregnancy] test," she continued. "And for many years now, I've taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day. Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before."
"So the morning of John's album release, he wakes up at 3 a.m. to do Good Morning America. I woke up with him and was like man, should take my monthly test to be disappointed...." Chrissy continued, referencing John's GMA appearance on June 19.
"...I was not disappointed. But I was scared shitless," she said. "Was pretty positive you shouldn't get your boobs out while pregnant? Pretty sure."
She continued: "So we prayed to the boob surgery gods that everything would be okay. Went to every appointment terrified. Even without the surgery, I didn't think I could get pregnant naturally anyway. So the odds just felt ... bad," Chrissy wrote. "But what they say so often can be true. When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you."
Chrissy experienced several complications during her pregnancy.
Chrissy went on bed rest for several weeks before being hospitalized at the end of September. She explained the details in her Instagram stories.
"We all know I've been on bedrest for a few weeks, and that's super serious bedrest: get up to quickly pee and that's it, I'd take baths twice a week and no showering. But I was always, always bleeding. And I'm about halfway through pregnancy, and the blood has been going on for like a month," she said. "We're talking more than your period, but definitely not spotting."
Throughout her hospital stay, she said that her son was fighting, despite her placenta being "really, really weak."
Our hearts go out to Chrissy and John during this difficult time.
