Chrissy Teigen Reveals Loss of Son Jack Was a 'Life-Saving Abortion'
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend lost their third baby in October 2020.
Chrissy Teigen is sharing new details about the loss of her and John Legend's late son, Jack.
The pair announced the devastating news in October 2020, after losing their third baby at 20 weeks due to partial placenta abruption. Now, the Cravings author, 36, is opening up for the first time about the "heartbreaking decisions" she was forced to make at the end of the pregnancy.
"Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions," she stated while speaking at Propper Daley's "A Day of Unreasonable Conversation" summit on Thursday, as reported by Entertainment Tonight. "It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn't either without any medical intervention."
Despite previously referring to the situation as a pregnancy loss, Teigen explained on Thursday that it was actually an abortion—and it ended up saving her life.
"Let's just call it what it was: It was an abortion," she stated. "An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago."
The model then explained that it wasn't until the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade back in June that she processed what had actually happened. She said she was expressing her sympathy for people who have to opt for abortions for medical reasons when her husband pointed out that she was included among those people, too.

"I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn't made sense of it that way," she recalled of the conversation with Legend. "I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage. And I became really frustrated that I didn't, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion."
The Chrissy's Court alum has spoken out more than once about her family's tragedy. Just this week, she told People that she has gained a "thick skin" since going through the heartbreaking experience two years ago.
"Of course, it still hurts. And, of course, you still go through it and you learn how important it is to be able to take care of yourself and go to therapy and to talk to people about any worries or anxieties you might be having," she explained. "But, I think that miracles are just always happening, and there are so many ways to make them happen."
Teigen—who shares daughter Luna, 6, and son Miles, 4, with Legend—is currently expecting a rainbow baby, which she announced via Instagram last month.
"Joy has filled our home and hearts again," she wrote in August.
