Camuto’s home and estate collection took inspiration from the Italian Renaissance and the French Court. The interiors of the chateau explore the late designer’s love of travel as it features elements spanning from several centuries, countries and styles.
What is perhaps the most striking about Camuto’s estate is the living room, which he fittingly called the Constellation Room. The space is equipped with 20-foot barrel-vaulted ceilings, tapestried walls and intricately stained glass windows. The room resembles that of a European cathedral.
Additional details of the room include the breathtaking ceiling, which is adorned with hundreds of individual lights, which “depicts the night sky as it would have appeared on Camuto’s birth date during the sixteenth century.” The beauty doesn’t end there, the home is also filled with gold chairs and end tables, plush velvet day beds, delicate lamps and marble floors.
The collection will be auctioned off online at Christies.com from June 15 to June 29.
Camuto died in 2015 at the age of 78. In addition to founding his namesake footwear label, Camuto co-founded Nine West and famously grew the company into a major powerhouse before it sold to Jones Apparel Group in 1999.
Camuto also received many Footwear News Achievement Awards, first appearing on stage in 1991 when Fisher Camuto Group won company of the year. Nine West received retailer of the year in 1994. After starting his namesake brand, he received launch of the year in 2005 and brand of the year in 2011. The most memorable of them all was the Lifetime Achievement Award he received in 2013. (Camuto was inducted into FN’s Hall of Fame in 2001.)
