Christie Brinkley Defends Dolly Parton for Not Dressing 'Her Age'

Christie Brinkley has no problem calling out those suggesting Dolly Parton "should dress her age."
The strongly worded message was shared on Brinkley's Instagram page on Wednesday, Nov. 29, days after Parton, 77, stepped out wearing an itty-bitty cheerleader outfit during her performance at the Cowboys vs. Commanders game last Thursday, Nov. 23.
"Whoever had the nerve to suggest that the one, and only Dolly Parton should dress, her age should sit down!" Brinkley, 69, began. "You should know you can’t define an icon like Dolly Parton by a number! Also immeasurable are her too numerous to count talents, her boundless good energy and effervescent humor, and her golden philanthropic heart full of love! And the fact that she can also rock a Dallas cheerleader outfit too is inspiring and fun!"
The supermodel's statement continued, "Oh and not to mention @dollyparton is also topping Billboards chart this week! Brava you go girl! I’ll cut this short like your killer outfit and just say, LOVE YOU DOLLY!"
"??Maybe @si_swimsuit is next?" she concluded.
Fans seemed to agree with Brinkley's sentiment, noting that the only person deciding what the "Jolene" songstress should wear is Parton herself.
"She should rock on and wear whatever she wants!" one exclaimed. "If I looked like that, I would too!!"
"She is amazing and everyone who speaks poorly of her are just jealous," another shared in agreeance.
"Completely agree. Dolly was awesome and rocked that cheerleader outfit!" a third cheered before adding a few hashtags, including "#bunchofnegativenellys," "#spreadkindness" and "#bepositive."
"We're all the ages we've ever been! (And we can express our creativity and dress however we want to, so there's that...)??," someone else wrote.
Also among the comments was praise for Parton, as people declared her a "national treasure" and "one of a kind."
Brinkley isn't the first person to speak out in defense of the country superstar's recent look. Parton's own sister Stella took to social media to commend the "9 to 5" singer for her confidence and cute ensemble.
"I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the half time show on Thanksgiving," she wrote.
The View co-hosts also rallied around Parton in the days following her big performance. "Some critics told her to act her age," explained Whoopi Goldberg, adding, "Bite me."
Sunny Hostin also admitted that she would embrace her looks at Parton's age, pointing out, “As far as Dolly is concerned: if I looked like that in one of them Cowboy things, I might have everything out.”
“I want what she has,” Hostin concluded.
