Christina Applegate has officially made her way back to the public eye!
The Married... with Children alum hit the rescheduled 2023 Emmys, which aired on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 15, at the Peacock Theater, donning a classy look.
For the star-studded event—which was originally slated to broadcast on Sept. 18, but was pushed back due to the actors' and writers' strikes—Applegate chose a plunging red velvet long-sleeved top with a matching skirt. The actress, who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS), stood on stage with one arm linked with host Anthony Anderson's arm and the other leaning on a cane at the beginning of the awards show.
Applegate got emotional when the audience gave her a standing ovation, before making a light-hearted joke that they were "shaming" her. "Body not by Ozempic," she added.
Applegate has been vocal about her MS battle after being diagnosed in 2021, even taking the opportunity to publicly showcase her resilience during a previous red carpet appearance where she used a walking cane with a bold statement that read "FU MS."
In May of last year, she opened up to Vanity Fair about struggles that come along with living with the disease, mentioning that she was likely giving up acting on camera due to the ongoing challenges she faces.
While speaking with the Los Angeles Times last Feb., she shared why the 2023 SAG Awards was extra significant, saying at the time, "It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal."
This year, Applegate is nominated at the Anthony Anderson-hosted awards show in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role as Jen Harding in Netflix series, Dead to Me.
Per the official synopsis, "A hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband befriends an eccentric optimist who isn't quite what she seems."
The comedy-crime drama series first premiered in May 2019, and ran for three seasons, with its series finale airing in 2022.
The Bad Moms actress joins fellow nominees Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face).
