Christina Applegate Speaks Out About Her Emmy Nomination Amid MS Journey
Christina Applegate shared some gracious words following the news of her Emmy nom!
The 51-year-old scored a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Netflix's Dead to Me. The honor comes amid her vocal battle with Multiple Sclerosis, much to the delight of her fans, and Applegate is clearly delighted, too.
"Thank you to the @TelevisionAcad @netflix @CBS and also the Hollywood critics and of course @GoldDerby for this incredible honor," she wrote on Twitter following the nomination revelations, expressing her gratitude for the recognition. "I am humbled and grateful. It’s been quite a ride. Thanks for the lift."

Applegate was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease just shy of two years ago, amidst filming for the third and final season of the hit Netflix comedy series that also stars Linda Cardellini.
The actress hasn't announced yet whether or not she'll attend the awards in person. She's previously spoken about the likelihood of retiring from acting due to the everyday difficulties caused by living with MS and how hard it was to watch herself on screen following the diagnosis.
"I don't like seeing myself struggling," she explained. "I gained 40 pounds because of inactivity and medications, and I didn't look like myself, and I didn't feel like myself."
But she was eventually "able to distance [herself] from [her] own ego and realize what a beautiful piece of television it was."
She also told the Los Angeles Times earlier this year that she doesn't have it in her to get up before dawn and spend 12+ hours on set, suggesting around the same time that the recent SAG Awards may also be her last—at least as an actor.
It's unclear if she believed she wouldn't receive further nominations for her role or if she meant she wouldn't be physically present in the future, but she does plan to transition to voice work in the future.
The 75th annual Emmy Awards are scheduled to air this September.
