Showtime's hit series Yellowjackets is officially coming back for season two in March 2023. Since the TV show's initial release in November 2021, it has earned support from both viewers and critics, scoring seven (!!) Emmy nominations.

In case you're just getting caught up with this buzzy (pun intended) show, here's the rundown: Season one follows a group of high school girls who survive a plane crash while flying to a soccer tournament in Seattle. The timeline flips back and forth between their teenage days surviving in the wilderness after the accident and their present-day selves 25 years later. If you've ever read Lord Of The Flies, it's pretty much like that, with the addition of horror, suspense, and cult-like activities.

The end of season one left viewers with a lot of questions. Present-day Misty, Taissa, Natalie, and Shauna work together to cover up Adam's murder, while it's revealed that Jackie froze to death in the wilderness, and Misty drugs Jessica. But fans still want to know: Who kidnaps Natalie? What does Lottie have to do with Travis' murder? Does Coach Ben survive? Is Jessica really dead?

Hopefully, all of those questions will be answered in full next season. Until then, read on for everything there is to know so far about season two.

When will Yellowjackets season two premiere?

The wait is almost over! Season two will be available to stream on March 24, 2023 for Showtime subscribers. FYI: They'll get two days of exclusive streaming before Yellowjackets airs on the network on March 26 for non-subscribers.

Which cast members are returning?

The cast first started filming season two in August 2022, with many familiar faces returning to set.

Who exactly is back for round two? Well, earlier in February, Christina Ricci, who plays present-day Misty, dropped a hint. To celebrate the end of filming season two, she shared a photo of her cast mates on her Instagram story, with the caption, "I loved every minute with these amazing women," per IndieWire.

What will happen in season two?

It seems like most of the cast were in the dark about a lot of the plot before filming, but Melanie Lynskey suggested that her character's husband, Jeff, might know more than the other characters are aware of. “Warren Kole emailed me and said, ‘What do you know?’ And I said, ‘I haven’t read anything. I don’t know anything,'” Melanie told People . “And he said, ‘Here’s what I have so far.’ And he had like quite a lot of information, which surprised me, but I’m not going to give any of that away.”

The teaser that was released in January hinted at a more suspense-filled season. “Darkness. We brought it back with us," says Natalie in one clip. In another scene, Misty and Walter, a citizen detective, sit side by side and discuss the dynamic between the girls. "Kidnapping, cults, death. Your friendships are a little more complicated than most," says Walter in the trailer.

According to Christina Ricci, there are also several jaw-dropping moments in the first few episodes of the new season. “I can’t really get too much into detail, but I will say the first couple scripts had the entire cast gasping,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “So it’s even wilder, more crazy, more shocking, and really compelling and fun.”

And if you were rooting for Coach Ben to survive? Steven Krueger confirmed that he at least makes it through the first two scripts of the show. But since a present-day Ben has yet to be cast, it's unclear what will happen in the long run, especially given his amputated leg.

“It’s going to get dire out there with little food and the challenge of staying warm and alive," Steven told TV Insider. "A good general overall birds-eye view of the second season is it feels like producers loved we were the crazy show on TV and want to take that and double down. If you thought season one was crazy, just buckle your seatbelts for season one. It doesn’t let up.”

Has Yellowjackets been renewed for season three?

Fans of the show can celebrate early—Yellowjackets has already been renewed for a third season. Back in 2021, series co-creator Bart Nickerson revealed they had big plans for the show. “We pitched it as a five-season idea,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Whether or not fans will get all five is still up in the air, although the idea sure is nice. There's no word on when they'll start filming season three or what additional seasons are to come, but stay tuned for more updates.
