Cindy Crawford Calls Out Oprah for Treating Her Poorly During 1986 Interview
After working in the industry for 40 years, Cindy Crawford has a lot more experience and knowledge than she did as a 20-year-old.
While looking back on a 1986 appearance on Oprah that happened just as Crawford was starting her career, the model called out Oprah Winfrey's behavior as problematic, something she didn't realize at the time.
In Apple TV+'s The Super Models docuseries, a clip from the 1986 talk show episode is featured. In the video, Oprah gestured to a young Crawford and said, “Did she always have this body? Stand up just a moment, now this is what I call a bod." Crawford did as she was asked, standing in front of the audience for all to see.
Commenting on the clip now, Crawford said, “When you look at it through today’s eyes, when Oprah’s like, ‘Stand up and show me your body,’ like show us why you’re worthy of being here."
“In the moment I didn’t recognize it," the 57-year-old continued, sharing that she didn't feel offended at the time. “Only when I look back at it and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that was so not OK really.’ Especially from Oprah!”
At one point in the Super Models episode, Crawford also stated that the experience made her feel like "the chattel or a child, like be seen and not heard."
The new TV documentary series The Super Models is a four-part show premiering on Apple TV+ on Sept. 20. Along with Crawford, it also focuses on Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, with all four women going over their history and rise to stardom, while also looking back on it from a new perspective.
Decades later, the four women are still huge names in the fashion industry. In Crawford's case, she also has two children following in her footsteps, Kaia Gerber, 22, and Presley Gerber, 24, whom she shares with husband Rande Gerber. Both Kaia and Presley have started making names for themselves as fashion models.
