Cindy Crawford, Dua Lipa twin in Versace gown 30 years apart: 'Timeless'
Dua Lipa turned heads in a Versace dress at the Grammy Awards Sunday night, but it wasn't the first time the boundary-pushing gown graced an award show red carpet.
The dress featured a strappy mesh bodice with structured ribbing connected to a high-neck collar. The "Levitating" singer layered her neck with chunky gold jewelry and a matching stack of bracelets, complimenting the gold-buckle detailing on the bodice.
As it turns out, supermodel Cindy Crawford rocked the sexy high-neck gown 30 years earlier. Crawford stepped out in the daring ensemble at the 1992 MTV Music Video Awards in Los Angeles. She went without the chunky chains but did add a red ribbon for HIV awareness.
She referenced the sartorial moment on her Instagram following the Grammys.
"Then and now ?? Timeless," read the caption.
Donatella Versace seconded Crawford's statements, commenting "Absolutely timeless!!" on the post.
"Iconic," Paris Hilton added.
The strappy floor-length gown, complete with Versace's iconic gold embellishments, originally debuted as part of Gianni Versace's Fall 1992 collection, which was titled Miss S&M. Donatella Versace wore a similar bondage-inspired look in 1993, paired with black tights and heeled boots.
As far as similarities go, Dua Lipa's newly blonde tresses also bore a striking resemblance to Versace's signature platinum blonde hue, as she and Megan Thee Stallion presented the award for Best New Artist.
The trio had a bit of onstage fun as Donatella removed the bottom half of both artists' skirts to remedy the presenters' matching moment. Some viewers said the interaction reminded them of when Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston presented the award for Best Male Video at the 1998 MTV VMAs when both Carey and Houston famously removed the bottom half of their dresses.
