Citizens of Humanity Unveils Regenerative Cotton Tote for B Corp Grocer

Los Angeles-based Citizens of Humanity Group (COH), owners of the namesake brand, Agolde and Goldsign, is bringing regenerative cotton to the local grocery store.

The company teamed with Erewhon, the L.A. certified organic and B Corp grocer, to create a limited-edition denim tote bag made with 100 percent regenerative cotton. The fabric is the first yardage made with Kiss the Ground Cotton, the product of COH’s partnership with agricultural nonprofit Kiss the Ground and the trademarked name that distinguishes the brand’s products made with regeneratively grown crops.

The $135 tote bag features Erewhon’s logo on one side and an illustration of cotton on the other.

The upscale grocer’s tote bags have become a status symbol in L.A. and beyond. Though Erewhon was founded in 1968, aesthetically pleasing packaging, Hailey Bieber-approved smoothies and pricey dishes like buffalo cauliflower have helped the retailer go viral on TikTok.

The tote bag will be available at Erewhon’s nine L.A.-area stores and online on Aug. 14.

COH has bigger plans for regenerative agriculture and its ability to boost soil fertility and biodiversity.

In 2022, COH engaged with regenerative farming consultancy Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA) and Kiss the Ground to work with U.S. and international farmers, supporting educational opportunities to spur the adoption of regenerative practices, including providing tailored guidance for farms’ specific needs. The farms test soil and plant health each year to verify progress. The collective also help support farmers financially so they can acquire new equipment and materials.

In January, COH advanced its partnership with Kiss the Ground by trademarking the cotton’s name for consumer-facing storytelling.

Kiss the Ground Cotton will be used in Citizens of Humanity, Agolde and Goldsign collections this fall.
