Clara Bow’s Family Reacts to Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Tribute

The family of Clara Bow, one of the leading film stars of the 1920s, has responded to the tracklist for Taylor Swift's upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, which features a song named "Clara Bow."

While Swift, 34, hasn't shared any details about the song or how Bow plays a part, the late actress' great-granddaughter, Brittany Grace Bell, spoke with TMZ about the tribute, seemingly thrilled at the mention of Bow. She noted that the family has not been in contact with Swift about the reference to Bow, but Bell hopes they can talk about the song and the inspiration in the future.

Bell also described her wish that Swift's song might bring further attention to Bow and her many accomplishments. She also hypothesized how great-grandmother might've inspired Swift, considering that the singer is a modern-day "It Girl," while Bow was arguably the original "It Girl."

The term was popularized after Bow starred in the 1927 silent film It, written by Elinor Glyn, who also wrote the book the movie was based on and is often credited with creating the "It Girl" term. Throughout her career, Bow also starred in other hit movies like Mantrap, The Wild Party, and Wings, the last of which won the first-ever Academy Award for Outstanding Picture in 1929.

After the tracklist was released, fans also noticed that Swift's Grammys jewelry look had a strong resemblance to something Bow wore, with many Swifties wondering if the entire red carpet look was inspired by the actress.

"Clara Bow" is one of 17 songs on Swift's The Tortured Poets Department album, taking the 16th spot. Swift also has two guest artists on the album, with Post Malone featuring on "Fortnight" and Florence and the Machine featuring on "Florida!!!" The project is set to be released on April 19.
