The brand launched its first sonic cleansing device in 2004, and has since sold more than 15 million brushes. A favorite of many dermatologists, the patented device uses sonic technology to get pores really, really clean, as well as remove makeup and other grime. Over the years, the brand expanded and offered innovative attachments and cleansing brushes for all skin concerns and parts of the body. Clarisonic won numerous beauty awards, and was even one of Oprah's Favorite Things back in 2007. The brand was bought by L'Oréal in 2011. In recent years, the brand faced tough—and inexpensive—competition in the cleansing brush and beauty device space.

"After more than a decade of game-changing innovation and industry-leading technology, the Clarisonic brand will be shutting down as of September 30, 2020," read the brand statement. "We want to thank all of our loyal customers, dermatologists and partners who have helped put this brand on the map. It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you all of these years."

There will no doubt be millions of men and women saddened by the thought they may have to one day use their hands to wash their face—so why the sudden closure? "This difficult decision was made so that L'Oréal can focus its attention on its other core business offerings," the brand shared.

All warrantees will be valid until October 31, 2022, so you're good for another two years should something happen to your cleansing brush. You can read all the FAQs about Clarisonic's closure here.
