The Classic Cocktail Sam Heughan and Kelly Clarkson Have in Common
Sam Heughan/Kelly Clarkson
Lately, Sam Heughan has been no stranger to the media spotlight. The Outlander star has been known to take aspects of his television persona and apply them to his everyday life, both being spotted on numerous occasions sporting a kilt out in public and even starting his own brand of Scotch whisky. The actor’s alcohol endeavors actually go far beyond his award-winning whisky; last year Heughan won an award for his limited-edition tequila, under his own Sassenach brand, and now, he's touring all over the U.S. to promote the latest addition to the brand's repertoire: gin.

While appearing on an episode of Kelly Clarkson’s, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Heughan had a laugh with Clarkson over cocktails while taking a break from his promotional U.S. tour. During the interview, Heughan mentions how he and his team have been “touring all around the U.S., pouring people gin and tonics and having a damn good time.” Kelly then expresses her fear of missing out, claiming that she had her staff pour them both a gin and tonic for the interview.

As Clarkson hands Heughan his drink, it becomes clear that the two share a common love for the popular cocktail. “I heard you made these nice and strong,” Heughan teased. “Well, if I made it, it would have been, “but I guarantee you they were looking out for Mama and it’s not that strong,” Clarkson said while giving the camera a smirk and taking her first sip.

While the two enjoyed sips of their cocktails, Heughan explained how the brand likes to serve gin and tonic with an apple slice, due to their use of apples as a main citrus. “Is it crab apple?” Clarkson asked, to which Heughan surprisingly responded, “Yes!”
As it turns out, Clarkson grows crab apples back home on her ranch. And while Heughan noted that they do not eat the apples due to their sour nature, and instead use them exclusively for making gin, Clarkson’s wit took over and she joked, “Well that’s why I’m growing them,” she laughs, “for gin.”
