Filmmaker Kevin Smith has said he nearly died this weekend after suffering from a heart attack.

The creator of Nineties comedy Clerks, Smith has since branched into comic books, writing and podcasting. On Sunday, he was scheduled to give two shows in which he discussed comic books and films in Glendale, California.

However, he was taken ill after the first show and went to hospital, causing the second one to be cancelled.

Smith explained more about his condition through Twitter, where he posted an update from his hospital bed.

Smith's post especially caused consternation with Avengers actor Chris Pratt, who shared his support:

Better Call Saul actor Michael McKeen, stand-up comic Wendy Liebman and Daniel Hardcastle, the YouTuber behind NerdCubed, also posted in reaction to Smith's news.
