The cleverest social media reactions to Stormi, Kylie Jenner's baby's name

Kylie Jenner revealed that her newborn daughter’s name is Stormi (not Butterfly), and Twitter revealed its best weather puns.

On Tuesday, Kylie, 20, posted an Instagram pic featuring her holding her daughter’s hand with the caption “Stormi.” Kim Kardashian followed up with a storm cloud emoji, and Kris Jenner tweeted, “Meet my precious granddaughter Stormi! I love you endlessly.”

The baby’s name was shared one day after Kylie posted a birth announcement, which also contained an apology for keeping fans “in the dark” regarding her low-profile pregnancy — one she described as “beautiful, empowering, and life-changing.”

The name Stormi is a derivative of Storm, both a female and a male name that means “asking for trouble” and “windswept and dramatic,” respectively, according to the website Nameberry.

“Stormi feels like a name from film noir,” co-founder Pamela Redmond Satran tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “It also has a dark meaning and is often used to describe rocky relationships or troubled moods. It doesn’t carry as positive a legacy, unlike the names Dream or Saint.”

Just like Kim and Kanye, who named their new daughter Chicago, Kylie also chose a “word name” — the difference is, Kimye‘s moniker has deep significance (Kanye was raised in Chicago), while Kylie’s is more universal.

Curiously, Kylie and partner Travis Scott chose the unconventional “I” ending, a trend that went mainstream in the 1960s after President Lyndon B. Johnson’s daughter Luci dropped the “Y” from her name and replaced it with an “I” in an act of rebellion.

Of Stormi’s spelling, Redmond Satran says, “It’s girly, youthful, and a touch dated, evoking a time when people dotted the letter ‘I’ with hearts or bubbles.”

Stormi’s debut also caused Twitter to produce some of its best comedic material.

There were weather jokes, naturally.

There were also mixed feelings.

“Stormi” also evoked distasteful jokes relating to adult star Stormy Daniels, rumored to have had an affair with President Trump and to have received a $130,00 payoff right before the 2016 election.

Not surprisingly, Stormi already has fans.
