The Lexus Pipe Pro kicked off today, marking the start of the World Surf League’s 2024 Championship Tour.

Some of the world's best surfers are on the North Shore and scored perfect Pipe while waiting for the contest.

Two of them are Kelly Slater and Griffin Colapinto. After both advanced through their first heats—Slater with an 11.67 and Colapinto with a 10.07—they hung around Pipe talking style and technique.

Peter King posted the clip above today. Captioning it, he wrote:

"Pipeline Pro is on! #LetsGo@kellyslater and @griffin_cola talking bside style choices in the morning warmup…"

In the clip above, Slater and Colapinto are at a beach house at Pipe talking about their waves.

Joking, Colapinto calls his heat wave "psycho."

Slater says he saw it and thought it was Mason Ho.

"You looked kinda Masony right there. I think that's why I thought it was Mason because there was a little color and it [the board] was long. You copied his style on that one," he says.

Colapinto says he's been working on his barrel riding technique, and Slater approves.

Pipeline is a meaningful place for Slater. In 2022, he claimed his eighth Pipe win during the Billabong Pro, 30 years after his first Pipe win in 1992.

In a recent sitdown with his long-time friend and Let's Poddy host, Benji Weatherley, he discussed his love for the legendary spot.

When asked what his favorite career moment was, he answered:

"Winning Pipeline two years ago."

"Pipe has been my mecca forever," he added.

With his 52nd birthday rolling in on February 11—the day after the contest's holding period ends—the question is: Will the GOAT take home a ninth Pipe trophy?
