Apr. 29—Overcast skies and intermittent rainfall didn't stop around 1,000 people, including anglers, their friends and families, from going to Mineral Lake to camp and cast their lines in the lake's waters last weekend for the 31st annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby.

"I know that Saturday we had close to 1,000 people in the camp here for the raffle and everything else," Mineral Lake Lions Club President Stevan Mayer said.

While he didn't know the exact number of actual participants who purchased fishing derby tickets, he estimated at least 300.
